Scott Stadium is, to the resounding description on Wikipedia, the oldest Division I stadium in the Commonwealth of Virginia (out of two). The Cavaliers have a tradition of showing a video of their mascot "slaying" the mascot of the other team before every home game, culminating in the Cavalier riding onto the field in a moment of fervor to be shared by every fan.
That's kind of creepy.
The best part about seeing Scott Stadium for me was who I was escorted around by. Al Groh has taken a lot of heat as the head coach at the school, though he has taken his team to three bowl victories since taking the helm. He has also sent a lot of guys to the NFL, even a couple of coaches. One of those coaches has since come back, and was nice enough to show me around the facility while taking a couple of parents of a new recruit around as well. Since it was a guided tour, I was able to check out the locker room (seriously on the level of Notre Dame, just without the tradition), as well as come through the entrance the players take to get onto the field. All in all, Scott Stadium was a very nice experience. The grassy knoll behind one of the end zones set in front of the columns leading into the stadium made me more than excited that we're staring straight the start of another season.
