Kentucky: Commonwealth Stadium

Slightly suprised would be understating the whole thing. There were many different suprises in store for me and my friends when we went and saw the University of Georgia lose (suprise #1) to Kentucky. There was also a stadium that had a seating capacity of almost 70,000 (suprise #2), and it was almost full of people probably looking for the basketball game (not suprised). What was also not a suprise was how bad these people were at being football fans. If you happen to be in Lexington on a Saturday in the fall and the football Wildcats are on the field, cover your ears should they get a first down. Otherwise, you will hear 70,000 screaming fans go freaking bonkers over the gain of 10 yards. It is ridiculous. Did I mention the confused basketball fans (suprise #3)?

Has anyone else noticed at this stadium that they have put up nets behind the goal posts? They take the balls that are kicked into the stands and throw them around the stadium eventually throwing them up, over, and out. Its hilarious! They put up the nets to try and stop it but if you were at this game in the photos you know Ga kicked one over the net, it was lost forever.

Dave, we have nothing to do in Lexington so of course we pack out the games. For years we have used footbal season as a way of saying "at least we have basketball" but now the team is somewhat legit (10 times better than last year with a schedule 30 times harder than last year.) Also, as ridiculous as the cheering for a first down is, come on, I sat through like 400 years of watching Bill Curry run the option ya gotta give us something.

glad to see someone from 1st south is doing something productive.

lol... wow talk about sounding a bit bitter. Seriously, do you really know a damn thing about Kentucky Football, other than the popular opinion that we're known for losing every game?

The fans have always been this dedicated and this insane about plays. It's not pitiful, it's just how kentucky football fans are. We understand the difference between a roundball and pigskin. We also like supporting our team's effort every chance we can get.

So, until you go to more than one game at commonwealth, please keep your far-from-counting opinion to yourself.

sheesh, you're an idiot.

Nathan,
I have been going to UK football games my entire life, at least four games a season since I was four years old ( I split the home games with my brother now). Dave is right we are bad football fans. Yes we are dedicated and we know alot about the sport but we are still bad football fans. Case in point we tore down the goal posts when we beat Georgia, where I actually saw Dave and Wuske before the game. Georgia had one of its worst seasons ever last year. Face it we don't know how to deal with a semi-decent football team. Also, remember the LSU game when we ran on the field before the game was completely over. I am as big of a UK football fan as there is but even I will admit we are bad at being football fans. Dave's right on this one.
